Commissions

I take commissions upon request. Start the process by sending me an email at trelembroidery@gmail.com.

Pieces are on a first come first serve basis but I can give you estimates regarding completion time. I don't estimate prices

until after I know the size and detail of your requested project. All my work is done by hand, one stitch at a time. I take the each piece from the beginning of the process to very end, from

working with you on designing the piece, fabric selection, embroidering the fabric, cleaning the piece and preparing it for mounting as well as stretching the fabric onto its frame. All that you are responsible for is choosing how to display your one of a kind artwork.

Process

Reference

1.    If you are looking for a portrait a good reference image is a must. The image should be clear at a high enough resolution to show detail. Everything you would like included in the design should be shown, or you should include enough additional images to fill in any gaps.

Sketch

2.    A sketch is the next step in my process. The sketch helps finalize the design and gives you the change to request any adjustments before I begin stitching.

Thread

3.    Thread selection goes hand in hand with the sketch. I prefer to select the palette before I begin work. This helps create a sense of consistency throughout the embroidery and I can gauge how colors effect and relate to one another.

Transfer

4.    I transfer the design onto the selected fabric using 1 of 2 methods, pencil or disappearing fabric marker. The pencil is used in areas I am 100% sure will be covered so that my pattern does not disappear, and the marker is used in wispy details so that I can make sure no pattern marks show through on the final piece.

Embroidery

5.    My stitching is an organic process. I use the thread as brush strokes and try to have thread direction length and texture aid in the overall composition and design. I often start with key details in order to lock them in place and then work outwards.

Finishing

6.    After each embroidery is finished I soak it in water to soften the threads and remove any dirt or smudges that have occurredduring the embroidery process. After cleaning I stretch the piece over its frame, tugging it until it reaches maximum tautness in order to avoid ripples and sagging in the fabric.
